According to the Goals of Care Coalition of New Jersey, New Jersey patients near the end of life are treated with more aggressive medical care than patients in any other state in the U.S. This high-intensity, high-cost care is often unwanted and burdensome to both patients and their caregivers. Key reasons for this burdensome care are the lack of knowledge about palliative and end-of-life care services, and comfort discussing these care options with patients.
