Laureate Award
Mirela Feurdean, MD, FACP

The Laureate Award honors Fellows and Masters of the College who have demonstrated by their example and conduct an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, or research and in service to their community, their Chapter, and the American College of Physicians.

It is with distinct pleasure that the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Physicians presents the 2021 Laureate Award to Dr. Mirela Feurdean, MD, FACP for her distinguished service to the Chapter and to medicine.

Dr. Feurdean is Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. A passionate primary care physician and medical educator, she serves as the Internal Medicine residency program director at NJMS.  The focus of her work for the past 15 years has been dual: direct patient care for the underserved and resident education in both inpatient and outpatient areas. Her areas of interest and research include curriculum development and interactive educational methodologies, patient centered communication and addiction medicine.

Dr. Feurdean graduated from I graduated from Gr. T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, Romania. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine, NYMC-Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, New York in 2004 and stayed on as Chief Resident until 2005.

Dr. Feurdean has been a member of the ACP New Jersey chapter since 2002.  She is a member of the Governors’ Council and has been Chair of the ACPNJ Scientific Meeting since 2019.

Louis A. Friedman, DO, FACP

The Laureate Award honors Fellows and Masters of the College who have demonstrated by their example and conduct an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, or research and in service to their community, their Chapter, and the American College of Physicians.

It is with distinct pleasure that the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Physicians presents the 2021 Laureate Award to Dr. Louis A. Friedman, DO, FACP for his distinguished service to the Chapter and to medicine.

Dr. Friedman is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia where he also served as Chief Medical Resident.  Dr. Friedman is board certified in internal medicine and is a fellow in the American College of Physicians. He served on the Governors’ Council of the American College of Physicians, New Jersey Chapter from 2015 to 2017 and from 2018 to present and currently as treasurer.

Dr. Friedman practiced at Pennsylvania Hospital where he also served as a teaching physician for residents and students and as assistant residency program director until 2001.  From 2001 until the present, he has been in private practice at Woodbridge Medical Associates, Woodbridge, New Jersey.  The practice has participated in the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative and is now enrolled in CPC+, track two.  The practice has been quick to adapt to the value-based care environment.

When not practicing medicine Dr. Friedman enjoys sailing, tennis, cycling and playing guitar.
